As the days get warmer and the evenings longer it can only mean one thing to the Wrights team…that the Willow Herts 100 Bike Race is nearly here! Yes, every spring our team start to get ‘wheely’ excited about taking part in and supporting this fantastic event which is run by our chosen charity Willow. Last year we worked with businesses in the local community and beyond to raise over £30,000 for this amazing charity and this year we’d love to smash this target. Of course we can’t do it without your support so we thought we’d share what Willow means to us and how you can get involved…
Why Willow?
We’ve been supporting Willow for over 3 years now and it’s been amazing to build up a relationship with such an inspirational charity. Willow was founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter Bob Wilson and his wife Megs in honour of their daughter Anna who died of cancer aged 31. Willow is the only national charity working with seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40 to fulfil uplifting and unforgettable Special Days. Since 1999 Willow has fulfilled more than 15,000 Special Days for young adults living with life-threatening conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and Huntington’s disease. We have visited the Willow office to hear about the positive effects that their special days have had and this has really inspired our fundraising efforts.
We’re getting on our bikes – why not join us!
This year we’ll be supporting the Willow in a number of ways. Firstly we are busy putting together a bespoke sponsored jersey for our riders to wear. This will incorporate the names of companies across the UK who are sponsoring the top. We produce a different design each year and it’s always very popular! We’ll also be putting together a team of riders who will take part in either the 25, 60 or 100 mile courses to raise sponsorship money for Willow, so if you love cycling then why not join us. Our Welwyn Garden City team usually like to do things a little differently and have previously completed the 25 mile course on a circular conference bike and an 8 seater bike. This year they are going for boys v’s girls with the 2 team’s competing against each other – it looks sure to be an exciting race! Any non -cyclists on our team will be supporting the Willow team on the day setting up for the race and handing out medals and bottles of water at the finish line.
Sponsor our team
We’d love it if you could show your support for Willow by sponsoring our team of cyclists. Please take a look at our justgiving link. We are really grateful for any help that you can give in reaching our fundraising target!
