Moving home comes under the top 5 most stressful life events for many people. Although moving to a new home is exciting and a fantastic fresh start packing up the contents of your home, organising removals and heading off to a new property can also be hard work! That’s why we’ve come up with a handy guide to ensuring that your moving day is as stress free as possible. Follow our top 5 tips and you’ll feel organised and fully prepared for the big day.
1. Opt for a recommended removals team
The last thing you want on moving day is to be let down by your removals team so make sure that you choose an experienced firm who have been recommended to you, or who have great online reviews. Knowing that your precious goods and furniture are in safe hands can be a real weight off your mind and is one less thing to worry about. Did you know that many firms also offer a packing service too so that you don’t even have to pack up your home. They will organise and safely pack all of your possessions leaving you more time to get on with your other jobs.
2. Make sure you have all your moving day essentials to hand
There’s nothing worse than needing to access something urgently and then realising it’s halfway down the motorway in the removals van! Think about what you will need to have to hand on the day. It is particularly important that you keep any documents that you may need with regards to the house move close at hand. Ensure that these are packed separately from your other belongings and carry them with you at all times.
3. Keep up your energy
Moving house can be stressful both mentally and physically so before you leave your old home make up a care package to keep you and the family sustained whilst you unpack. A thermos of tea and some biscuits will be very welcome after you have settled in and you could also research the best local takeaways for your celebration meal. Of course when you buy with Wrights we really enjoy handing over our welcome hamper along with your house keys. This is fully of goodies and essentials to really help you feel at home.
4. Stay in contact with your estate agent and solicitor
People generally move house on the day that they complete on the sale so it’s really important to keep in contact with both your solicitor and your estate agent. Make sure that you have all of their contact details and that your mobile phone is fully charged so that they can get hold of you if necessary.
5. Get your friends and family involved
Many hands make light work and a sure-fire way to help with your stress levels is to see if friends and family will come round to help you unpack and settle in. It’s great to feel supported in your new home and having a few extra people around to help with cleaning, unpacking cases and rearranging furniture can be a real help at such a busy time.
