3 things to consider when choosing where to live

Posted in Sales

Whether you are buying a property or choosing a rental to live in it can often be hard deciding which area to make your home in. There are so many considerations and different factors to take into account. Wrights offices are based in three very popular commuter towns - Hatfield, Stevenage and Welwyn Garden City and so we often speak to people moving here from all over the country (and even further afield!). They often ask us why they should decide to live in this area and want to chat about the benefits of life in Hertfordshire. So if you are planning a move our team has come up with three key things you need to consider when choosing where to live:

1. Travel Links

A big consideration when choosing your home is to make sure that you have great travel links to work, school and family. Many people in Hertfordshire commute into London and they are always pleased to hear that they can get into London Kings Cross in less than 30 minutes from the mainline stations in all three of our locations. If your job entails lots of driving you might also look for good access to motorways and if you have young children it can be important to make sure that you are in easy reach of amenities such as schools, doctors and leisure facilities.

2. Education

If you have a family then education will probably be one of the first things on your mind when you are looking for a new property. We are lucky that in Hertfordshire we have a selection of great state and independent schools but it can be worth doing your research on schools before you move in to an area. Take a look at their Ofsted rating and also work out whether you have a good chance of your child getting a place there. You might also want to consider how you will get your child to school and of course the ideal home would be within walking distance of a great school location.

3. Local Amenities

You don't want to choose the perfect house but then find out that the location is less than ideal. Make a list of amenities that are important to you and your family and check that they are within easy reach of your home. If you like sport then you might want to make sure that you have a great leisure centre or gym nearby or if you prefer a bit of culture then look for theatres and cinemas in your location. Shops, doctors, hospitals and parks can also be important too so make sure you know where these are in relation to your new home. We always recommend taking a drive or walk around the area that you are planning to live in so that you can really get to know it and feel sure that it is right for you.
