Things To Do In Hertfordshire

Posted in Sales

One of the reasons that buying or renting a house in Hertfordshire is becoming increasingly popular with our clients is that there are so many wonderful things to do in our lovely county. As well as only being around 30 minutes away from the centre of London by train the towns of Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage also offer a wealth of activities to those who live here. From sports and shopping opportunities to historic houses and unique days out there is definitely something for everyone. In this month’s blog we’ve taken a look at some of our favourite things to do in Hertfordshire!

Things To Do In Hatfield

Hatfield is home to the historic Hatfield House which opens its doors from spring to autumn every year to provide a variety of interesting activities for visitors. If you love local history you can take a tour of the stately home and old Tudor palace where Elizabeth I lived and, if you love the great outdoors, the woods and gardens make a beautiful setting to take some exercise or walk your dogs. There is also a rare breed animal farm and a children’s climbing frame making it perfect for young families too.

If you prefer a bit of retail therapy then look no further than the glorious Galleria - a shopping, eating and cinema complex which houses some of the big names discount stores including Gap, Waterstones and M&S. It’s a fantastic place to grab some bargains and you can relax afterwards with a meal at a range of restaurants.

However if sport is more your thing then Hatfield benefits from the fabulous University of Hertfordshire Sports centre which has a pool, badminton courts, a gym and a climbing wall. There’s also a weekly parkrun for those who love to run.

Things To Do In Welwyn Garden City

As you can imagine from the name this town is a haven for those who love to get active in the great outdoors. Stanborough Lakes provide a fishing and boating lake to enjoy. You can choose to take part in a range of water based activities or dare yourself to climb the high ropes. If the weather is cold or rainy then why not head along to the Gosling Stadium to burn off some energy at the trampoline park or book a court for a round of tennis, badminton or squash.

Welwyn Garden City also has a number of great events which are held in the town centre each year. There’s a food festival on the 18th May with exciting eats from all over the world accompanied by music from great local bands. We also have the increasingly popular cinema on the green event every August where locals can relax and watch a selection of fantastic films whilst enjoying the sunshine. This year the town also welcomes the inaugural Oktoberfest which is being sponsored by Wrights! We can’t wait and there’s already a fantastic buzz around this festival with tickets selling fast so why not grab one now.

For those who like a bit of history and culture we are also lucky to have Mill Green Museum and Welwyn Roman Baths which offer a fascinating glimpse into the history of our local area.

Things To Do In Stevenage

Stevenage is definitely the place to come if you enjoy making the most of your leisure time. Boasting a fantastic retail and leisure park you can enjoy a choice of visiting the trampoline park, adventure golf, bowling and 4D cinema! And when you have tired yourself out you can relax with friends and family in one of the many on site restaurants and bars. Stevenage is also home to the Gordon Craig theatre which along with many high profile shows also hosts an award winning pantomime every Christmas.

For those wanting to get away from city life then a short drive takes you to the beautiful Knebworth House where you can enjoy scenic views of the stunning Hertfordshire countryside. But don’t be fooled by the peace and quiet as Knebworth is also famous for hosting a number of high profile concerts and bands so look out for any upcoming events over the summer. For children there is an exciting dinosaur park and Fort Knebworth - a great adventure play park.

You can also get out and about at Fairlands Valley Park which consists of 120 acres of parkland situated within the heart of Stevenage. The park has 4 lakes and 2 play areas so is great to keep little ones amused on a sunny summer’s day. With all of these wonderful things to do it’s no wonder that so many people are choosing to live here!

Of course this is only a small selection of what is available in our wonderful county and there is so much more to explore too.
